Compulsory Level Skills are Not Always Used at Higher Levels of Competition

About half of Compulsory level skills, especially bar skills, are never used at the higher optional levels of competition. This means that about half of Compulsory practice time is used on skills that will not be used later in a gymnast?s career.

There is More to Gymnastics than Compulsories

The emphasis of many teaams, coaches, gymnasts and parents seems focused on doing everything possible on winning at the Compulsory levels, as if that were the best and most important way to develop into a successful high level optional gymnast. Actually, the most important things for a young gymnast are to develop a high level of gymnastics strength and flexibility and to begin to train for the high level skills that will be used later in their career. In the long run, this is significantly more important to future gymnastics success than anything that has to do with Compulsories.

Womens Fancy Dress
My friend is organising a fancy dress party for her birthday next week and I have been looking around to find some decent Womens Fancy Dress costumes for the occasion. I know that in the past I have always been really disappointed by the Womens Fancy Dress that I have seeen and so was more than a little worried about what sort of inappropriate things that I may come across. You know the usual things like nurse`s costumes etc. I was determined not to go as anything like this and to try and have a little more imagination. Luckily, yesterday I found a really wonderful Womens Fancy Dress shop in the local neighbourhood and their choice of outfits is really imaginative. In fact, I had real trouble choosing a costume as there were that many fantastic alternatives to choose from. I have told all of my other friends about the shop and they are all following in my footsteps and going there tomorrow to choose their costumes. I know that, with the selection they have available, the fancy dress party will be a resounding success. I know we will have a wonderful time and lots of fun and frolics will be had.
